Dar es Salaam, October 2026 — The Legal and Human Rights Centre is pleased to announce a renewed funding partnership with the Embassy of Ireland in Tanzania. This strategic support secures vital resources to help advance justice, democracy, and equality across the nation. The funding directly strengthens LHRC’s capacity to implement its core operations, ensuring that local civil society engagement and grassroots legal interventions continue to build a fairer and more equitable Tanzanian society. For years, the Embassy of Ireland in Tanzania has stood as a steadfast champion of civic space, human rights defenders, and women's empowerment. This renewed commitment highlights a shared belief that true development can only be sustained when local action is backed by strong global solidarity. Under this extended grant framework, the partnership will directly fuel three key areas of LHRC's daily work. First, it will back constitutional rights and access to justice by expanding legal aid services, strengthening community paralegal networks, and making it easier for vulnerable groups, particularly women and children, to know and claim their rights. Second, the funding will boost civic dialogue and democratic engagement by developing inclusive public forums, encouraging active civic participation in local governance, and protecting open public spaces. Finally, resources will be directed toward grassroots gender equality by driving field campaigns to combat gender-based violence, enhancing local support networks, and advancing equal economic opportunities for women. This partnership represents a deep alignment of goals between LHRC and the Embassy of Ireland. As LHRC moves forward with its upcoming activities, this continuous support ensures the team remains fully equipped to monitor human rights compliance, provide critical legal counsel, and foster a resilient democratic culture across Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar. LHRC deeply values the continued trust, collaboration, and shared vision of the Embassy as both institutions stand side-by-side to strengthen human dignity.
