Posted 2 years ago

Legal and Human Rights Centre has launched the Tanzania Human Rights Report-2020. It is LHRC’s 19th report, and highlights the situation of human rights in Tanzania, particularly Tanzania Mainland, in the year 2020, touching on some key issues around the three generations of human rights, namely: the civil and political rights; economic, social, and cultural rights; and collective rights. The theme for this year’s report is “Human Rights Protection and the Threat Posed by Covid19” in light of the predicament of the Covid19 global pandemic which disrupted enjoyment of human rights in 2020 after it was officially declared to exist in Tanzania in March 2021. This is a human rights situation report, hence covering both the positives and negatives in terms realization of fundamental human rights in Tanzania. The 2020 report is unique in the sense that it includes a chapter on status of implementation of recommendations made in previous reports, focusing on 2015 to 2019 reports. As Tanzania is a Party to various regional and international human rights instruments, the report assesses compliance with obligations which arise out of such instruments by looking at and analysing some key rights issues which emerged in 2020.
