LHRC Commemorates International Human Rights Day
On December 8, 2023, the Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) commemorated International Human Rights Day and the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) at the Johari Rotana Hotel in Dar es Salaam.
The Executive Director of LHRC, Dr. Anna Henga, inaugurated the conference, which was attended by various stakeholders, including ambassadors, government leaders, UN delegates, civil societies, political parties, religious leaders, and paralegals.
The Guest of Honor, Mr. Marcel Akpovo, the Director and Regional Representative of UN Human Rights EARO, spoke highly of the initiative and efforts taken to safeguard and uphold human rights. “We commend ourselves for some of the steps we have taken in safeguarding and upholding human rights.".
He empathized that “more than 1 billion women face various forms of gender-based violence. Therefore, as a nation, we need advocacy organizations to create systems that protect women against gender-based violence.
