On 18th May 2023, the Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) launched its first study report on "Impacts of Climate Change on Social Economic and Environmental Rights in Tanzania". The report highlights observed and perceived climate change impacts on human rights in four key sectors of Agriculture, fisheries, livestock, and settlement in six regions namely Dodoma, Mbeya, Manyara, Pwani and Mwanza, and Kagera regions.

The report provides anecdotally in-depth findings and recommendations for better interventions to advocate for improved socio-economic and environmental justice in Tanzania.

LHRC Executive Director Dr. Anna Henga said during the launching that the rights that have been seen to be affected by climate change include social rights such as the right to food, the right to health, the right to education, the right to access clean and safe water, the right to live in a decent environment, the right to privacy and the family.

As it is known in Tanzania, we are implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) adopted in 2015; the goals reflect an international agreement to address the most important problems that humans face. Of the 17 goals, goal number 13 is aimed at changing the country's behavior. Climate problems have continued to grow around the World, causing the international community to adopt the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 1992 during the World Summit.
