PUBLIC STATEMENT ON THE PROGRESS OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL CASE CHALLENGING CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IN SCHOOLS

Today, March 16, 2026, the High Court of Tanzania (Main Registry, Dodoma) mentioned Miscellaneous Civil Cause No. 32373 of Samwel Maduhu Mangu vs. the Ministry of Education, Science and Vocational Training before a panel of three (3) judges: Hon. Justice A. Mruma, Hon. Justice S. Hassan, and Hon. Justice I. Musokwa. During the session, the Court provided schedule on the hearing of the preliminary objection raised by the State Attorney.

Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) wishes to inform the public of the schedule of the Court to determine the objection and progress of the case as follows:

a) On 30/03/2026, filing of submission in chief by the government.

b) On 13/04/2026, the Petitioner should file a reply to the submission in chief.

c) On 20/04/2026, the government should file its rejoinder (if any).

Following these steps, the High Court of Tanzania, (Main Registry), Dodoma will deliver its ruling on the Government’s preliminary objection on 06/04/2026 at 9:00 a.m. Further updates will be provided to the public as the case progresses.
