LHRC LAUNCHES TANZANIA HUMAN RIGHTS AND BUSINESS REPORT 2018/2019

Legal and Human Rights Centre has on Thursday, November 14, 2019, launched the Tanzania Human Rights and Business Report 2018/2019-a report which depicts the situation of human rights in the business sector in Tanzania mainland. LHRC has been preparing the report since 2012 to asses corporate compliance with labour laws and standard, the corporate responsibility to respect human rights, state duty to protect human rights and remedy for violation of human rights in the business sector in Tanzania Mainland for the financial year 2018/19. 

The main objective of the report is to shed light on the situation of human rights and business in Tanzania in the financial year 2018/19; to establish progress between the present and the previous years on business compliance with labour and human rights. The report is to be used as an advocacy tool to advocate for and promote human rights and business in Tanzania. Furthermore, the report provides some useful information on human rights and business in Tanzania and can be used for academic purposes. 

The report is divided into nine chapters. Chapter One provides an overview of Tanzania; introduces the business and human rights; and covers report preparation, objectives and structure, while Chapter Nine provides general conclusion and recommendations. The other chapters touch on issues of labour rights and standards; land acquisition for investment; tax responsibility; businesses giving back to the community; duty for businesses to protect and promote environmental rights; corporate respect for human rights on issues of gender and discrimination and regulatory authorities.
