LHRC launches Chang'ombe Secondary School Human Rights Club
Legal and Human Rights Centre was so honored to have another opportunity to launch Chang’ombe Secondary School Human Rights Club which adds up the number of our human rights clubs to 17 countrywide. The launching of this club means widened interaction with young generation in the country toward organization initiative as far as Human Rights is concerned. The launching session took place on Saturday February 18 th , 2017 at Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE) campus. In the session LHRC team including the Executive Director, Dr. Helen Kijo-Bisimba who was a chief guest for the session joined Chang’ombe Secondary School students to mark its official launch.
Apart from the LHRC team and Chang’ombe Secondary School Students, the session was also graced with the presence of Chang’ombe Secondary School’s admins counting Head Teacher, Miss Diana Matemu.
Speaking during the event, Dr. Helen Kijo-Bisimba reminded members of the club to be good role models in school and society for they are lucky to be aware of their rights and responsibilities. “We (LHRC) commend your good decision to form this human rights club, it shows how you are profoundly ready to learn, understand and relish human rights; but all this will be useless if you are not going to value other people’s rights for no respect of humanity without respect of human rights”. She insisted.
At the same time, Dr. Bisimba applauded Chang’ombe Secondary School admins for their promptness to see students understand their human rights by allowing the establishment of the club at the school.
The Head Teacher for Chang’ombe Secondary School thanked the Legal and Human Rights Centre for cheer leading the initiative. She further argued students to stick to the club for it will help them to address the increasing violent acts against children which deny children their basic rights both at school and at their homes. In excitement she said “from today on, we’ve officially became human rights activists”.
Prior to the official launch, the LHRC’s Ally Seif capacitated students with human rights education, and the session was concluded by cutting a cake to officiate the club.
Chang’ombe Secondary School is located in Temeke, Dar es Salaam.

Pioneers of Chang'ombe Human Rights club together with the invitees were in a buoyant mood after official launch of the club.
