Dr. Sengodo Mvungi (The Late)
You will not be able to write the history of Tanzania’s constitution movement, access to justice, and human rights without mentioning the name of Dr.Sengodo, he has a long list of publications in the fields of media law, constitutional law, human rights, and administrative law. He was born in 1952.
Before his death in 2013, he was a journalist, activist, politician, and an advocate, Notary Public, and Commissioner for Oaths. He was a founding member of the Legal and Human Rights Center (LHRC). During the 2005 Tanzania General Election, he also ran for President. From 2011 to 2014, he was a member of the Tanzanian Constitutional Review Commission.
Dr. Mvungi graduated from the University of Dar-es-Salaam with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) in 1981 and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in 1987. He subsequently moved to Germany, where he earned a Master of Law and a Doctor of Law (Ph.D.) from Hamburg University in 1991 and 1994, respectively.
