Norwegian Embassy Delegation Visits LHRC Headquarters and Legal Aid Clinic

Today, 17th April, 2025, the Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) welcomed a delegation from the Norwegian Embassy to its Headquarters in Kijitonyama and the Legal Aid Clinic in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam. The visit aimed to introduce Mr. Øyvind Gressetvold, the newly appointed Governance Officer at the Embassy.

The delegation was received by LHRC’s Acting Executive Director, Advocate Fulgence Massawe, who provided a comprehensive overview of LHRC’s work in advancing human rights in Tanzania. This includes legal aid services, advocacy for law reform, response to human rights violations, community engagement, and research.

At the Legal Aid Clinic in Kinondoni, the delegation witnessed how LHRC offers free legal assistance to indigents. The legal support provided covers a wide range of issues, including criminal and civil cases, family and probate matters, labor and employment disputes, and land-related disputes. LHRC also presented data on the number of individuals served and highlighted the growing need for public awareness on human rights.

Additionally, LHRC shared insights into the current human rights situation in Tanzania, including democracy, accountability, and good governance, which are key areas of LHRC’s engagement.

On his part, Mr. Øyvind Gressetvold commended LHRC for its outstanding work in promoting justice and human rights and expressed the Embassy’s commitment to continued collaboration advancing human rights.
