The Legal and Human Rights Centre (LHRC) was deeply honoured to welcome the Ambassador of Finland to Tanzania, H.E. Anna Merrifield, to its headquarters for a high-level courtesy visit.

The primary objective of Her Excellency’s visit was to gain a comprehensive understanding of LHRC’s core institutional mandates and to receive strategic updates on the long-standing partnership between the Embassy of Finland and LHRC in the critical areas of human rights and democratic governance.

Finland remains a foundational development partner for LHRC. The Embassy of Finland is currently supporting LHRC in implementing a vital two-year initiative (2025–2027) titled "Strengthening Human Rights and Democratic Accountability in Tanzania." This strategic project focuses extensively on high-impact interventions across 10 regions of Mainland Tanzania, aiming to enhance civic space, foster transparent leadership, and empower local communities.

During the visit, the LHRC management team, led by Executive Director Dr. Anna Henga, engaged in productive deliberations with Her Excellency. The discussions centered on key project milestones, measurable field outcomes, and prospective areas of bilateral cooperation.

LHRC formally extends its warmest welcome to Ambassador Merrifield as she begins her tenure in Tanzania. The Centre looks forward to a robust and impactful collaboration under her leadership to further solidify democratic accountability, justice, and equality for all Tanzanian citizens.
